From time to time, I get to go on a ride with my DH (Dear Hubby), and for me this is good training for the big group rides later in the summer. It's also a security blanket :) I'm a much more relaxed and confident rider when he's out there with me.
Anyway, last Saturday, I was home writing a final paper for a class and Brad was out for a ride with his brother....or so I thought until I heard two very distinct rumblings from the front of the house! Turns out they had decided to go North for a ride and decided to see if I wanted to blow off my paper for a couple of hours...who wouldnt?!?
I think I surprised DH and Bro/Girlfriend by wanting to go on my own scoot. But we were going only a little farther than I had been on the same road I've been riding. We were headed for a little town called Corrinne - it has a gas station, a park, a bar, and a wal-mart distribution center. As Truck Drivers, DH and Bro are well aquainted with this small town. The other significance of this small town is that it is halfway down the highway to the Promentory Point Golden Spike State Park. Ya, where the transcontinental railroads met....they do reenactments and all - it's supposedly a really great ride. but that's a goal for later in the summer and a story for another day. For now, Corrinne is a bit of a milestone for me - I hit 300 miles on my scoot this run.
This ride was my first with 3 bikes, officially a "group ride" - you see, in motorcycling there are special rules of the road when riding in groups. For safety we ride in formation, left right left down our lane, or doubled up at stops. We use hand signals to indicate debris in the road, changing lanes, and other things to keep the group safe and moving as a single organism. In large rally groups, this formation is a sight to see and literally rolling thunder - hand signals are key cuz you can't hear anything else! For my first ride, Brad led, he knew where we were going. I was in the middle because I am the beginner and I have the fastest bike. Carter had two on his bike which makes his souped up Softail Custom a bit slower than Brad's lazy but comfortable Softtail Fatboy. If I were leading, both of them would be left behind, as I accidentally found out on my first ride with DH. Oops. ;)
In all a great ride :)
