Cold Rain and Hot Springs!

For Memorial Day Weekend, DH was lucky enough to have the whole weekend off. As a truck driver it's rare for him to have a whole weekend off ever, let alone a holiday weekend. So, I took full advantage of it and planned a little getaway on the bikes.

I made plans to stay in Lava Hot Springs at a little road side motel; I was excited for a relaxing weekend. DH's response was somewhat less enthusiastic when he heard "motel" and "hot springs." Granted, he did have a run in with this roach motel called the "Galaxy" last year on Route 66, so I can't really blame him.

The one thing I didn't check when I made these plans was the weather! I always check the weather! But this time I spaced it and what we got was Rain! Rain! Rain! Oh, well we were going and we were going on the bikes. It was a WET ride up, about 130 Miles, but we made it up there safely. Thankfully, we have the right riding gear to manage about any weather. But even despite the right gear we still had to change our route to avoid the worst of it. We arrived shivering and half drowned, but our room was ready and the hot springs were only half a block away!

We enjoyed the hot tubs, and the quaint food operations that are in the town of Lava, and then a blessedly dry and beautiful ride home.

PS - I hit 1000 Miles on my bike on this ride on Idaho Highway 34, just south of Grace, ID. I flashed my lights, honked my little horn, and waggled my tail feather (rear end of the bike) in celebration. I also scared the hell out of DH in the process :)

  1. Rock on! Was Anna's mom in town? We're hoping to hit some hot springs up by Denali this summer, but thankfully we'll be in the car on the way up and the way back!
